Results
of the public opinion poll on active transportation were announced by Dr. Roger
Suss, Chair of the Public Health Issues Committee, at a news conference July 24
in the City Hall courtyard. On the same
occasion, Mayor Sam Katz highlighted the implementation strategy for active
transportation in Winnipeg, which Doctors Manitoba has strongly encouraged.
Dr.
Suss presented the Mayor with a bike helmet as a gesture of continuing
support and assistance.
Another Doc Walks the Talk
Dr.
Suss was not the only active transportation booster "walking the talk" at City
Hall that afternoon, nor was he the only physician. Many of the supporters in the crowd followed his example by
cycling to the event, including Drs. Margaret Fast (left) and Sande
Harlos.
Before returning to their
downtown office, the two WRHA Medical Officers of Health had an opportunity to
speak informally with Mayor Katz about the future of active transportation in
Winnipeg.Dr. Harlos is a long-time
member of the Doctors Manitoba Public Health Issues Committee.
